Working with Leaders to Achieve the Next Level of Performance

The real art of success is being able to keep your eye on the horizon – your sense of the desired end state in your gut – while takin’ care of business every day – in every way.

I work with social venture and enterprise entrepreneurs so that they can engage more strategically. However, life especially in start up mode is a lot more complicated than it is for organizations that have the confidence of running their operations for a few years, have consistently brought in several million dollars in revenue, and have weathered more than one storm.

The digital medium offers new ways and structures to tell stories. It offers us the ability to re-create our stories in a style where authority does not rest with an expert but is co-generated from multiple perspectives. Non-linearity, virtual and interactive, weave together, augmenting or replacing the linear, the physical and the one-way in the digital realm.

Hyper text, hyper art, hyper ideas.

I wrote this comment because I think the A-List Blogging community has something valuable to offer and on the net there is no reason to horde or keep valuable information to oneself. The elegance of the molecular, tactile, and behavioural communication system of this swarming hive-mind as it sought a home drew forth a new awareness from my own clunker of a domesticated information processing system. This living ball of life was wild and outside of the human system (for a couple days anyways). This community of bees seemed so completely tuned with the function, rhythms and cycles of the day. They exhibited an elegance and grace that is hard to describe. Such is relationship of complexity and language. Only poetry, music, art and pure mathematics seem to do such natural systems justice.

Yesterday I spent the day with couple of wilderness ‘survival’ experts. Not the – I am going to crunch every organism between point A and point B type – but the type that know tracking, have been taught awareness of the land and have enough expertise to teach special forces in stealth technique.

As a meditator and yoga practitioner I was particularly interested in how one of the instructors worked with bird song to intuit and know what was going on far beyond his perceptual senses. The Tweets, if one could read them, extends one’s sensory perception and awareness of the land and its activities – and it happens simulteniously in all directions.
